P90X

So about a month ago a friend of mine told me about this program. I have been on a mission to find workout DVDs so I could exercise at home (I needed a change of scenery from my gym), and I was very excited when I heard about P90X . After doing some research, I saw that if one does this three month program, he or she will lose fat, gain energy, muscle and feel better there after. A few weeks ago I got my hands on the DVDs, fitness and nutrition guide, dumbbells, a pull up bar and a mat...and began my journey.
From my experience thus far, I can say that the workouts are very difficult, but they are not unmanageable (and I would not call myself extremely strong or physically fit). I am mainly doing this program to gain some muscle and for my health, however I can see how it targets everything that it advertises. In order to get the full three month results one must be very strict with themselves and this routine. The way that P90X works is:
Month 1 - 3 weeks : 6 days a week: a mix of exercises that involve cardiovascular activities, legs, chest, back, abdomen, shoulders and arms.
I did this for the first week and then slowed down to four days a week (I follow the fitness guide and do each exercise every other day instead of every day). I also push myself as much as possible throughout each workout, however I do lack skills (such as push ups), therefore I will do the routine of the first month for longer then suggested.
Another thing that one must do is follow the recommended diet. I've never been much of a junk food eater so it is not too difficult. For those off you that may be interested, DON'T WORRY...this diet actually has me eating much more then I did before, since your body needs energy from the strenuous workouts. The nutrition guide gives you delicious recipes, and it even gives you a list of food that you can have from take out (obviously this is for a situation when you have no way of getting anything else healthier). For those of you that are still worried, here are a few examples of what I would eat and what I eat instead:
White bagel - whole wheat bagel
Mashed potatoes with butter and milk- baked potato
Milk- skim milk
Currently I have lost some fat, gained a little bit of muscle, energy and strength, and I feel that P90X has greatly helped me with other sports (such a skiing). I'll keep you updated with my progress as well as my transition into the second month.
